· In an emergency, the first responsibility is to protect the safety and well-being of all program participants. Do whatever it takes to ensure this. It may mean getting immediate medical assistance, having the US embassy intervene, or seeking police protection. In case of terrorist attack or natural disaster, gather in a pre-arranged location to ensure all participants are accounted for. Follow directives of local authorities. The campus STOP. THINK. ACT. Emergency procedures may also be followed in most situations abroad, with minor adjustments. Know the host country’s 9-1-1- equivalent.
