titleNursing Ceremonies

Faculty will seek students to assist in planning three ceremonies: 1) Blessing Ceremony, 2) Synthesis of Care ceremony held near the end of term four, and 3) the Pinning Ceremony for students graduating from nursing at University of Northwestern - St. Paul. The Pinning ceremony is a way to celebrate completion of the nursing program with family and friends and receive the nursing pin. Attendance at these special events as well as graduation ceremonies is required for all nursing students. The University of Northwestern School of Nursing has carefully and strategically placed professional events and ceremonies throughout the nursing program.  Events include: SON State of the Organization, SON Community Thanksgiving Meal, SON Annual Transcultural Presentations, SON Professional and Networking Event, and the SON Health Fair/5 K Run.  Professional events serve as opportunities to foster professional growth and development of the nursing students.  While the Blessing and Pinning Ceremonies showcase the School of Nursing with its faculty, staff, and students, the ceremonies are considered very sacred events, where students are dedicated and committed to the Lord, as they further prepare for ministry and service through nursing.

Events

Each cohort will encounter the events as outlined on the SON calendar.  All students are required to help with preparations, attend and fully participate in SON events. Failure to meet these requirements may subject the student to course penalties as reflected in course syllabi.

Ceremonies

Students involved in the Blessing and Pinning Ceremonies are required to attend and fully participate.  Students in other cohorts may be asked to help in preparations and are welcome to attend, but are not required.
