Overview

The Data virtual computer lab has been created to provide you with a pre-configured environment that has the required software installed and ready for you to use.  Each student will receive a dedicated Windows 10 virtual machine that will be available for the duration of the course, including any files or settings saved in the virtual machine.

Access the Virtual Lab

Note: you will have access to the Computing Windows Desktop or Computing Ubuntu Desktop based on your course registration

Horizon Client (recommended)

...

  1. Follow these instructions to install and configure the Horizon Client on your computer:
    1. VMWare Horizon Client for Mac
    2. VMWare Horizon Client for Windows
  2. Login with your account (don't forget to select the correct domain: STU to students, EMP for employees)
  3. Click "Computing Data Windows Desktop" or "Computing Ubuntu Desktop" to launch your virtual machine

  1. Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, or Internet Explorer)
  2. Browse to https://vws.unwsp.edu
  3. Click "VMWare Horizon HTML Access"
  4. Login with your account (don't forget to select the correct domain: STU to students, EMP for employees)
  5. Click "COS Data Windows Desktop" or " COS Ubuntu Desktop" to launch your virtual machine

Available Software

JMP-Pro is installed and ready to use.  You can run JMP-Pro from the shortcut on the desktop

Tableau is installed and ready to use.  You can run Tableau from the shortcut on the desktop.

PowerBI is installed and ready to use.  You can run PowerBI from the shortcut on the desktop

BayesiaLab software uses a license checkout system.  You will use an account to checkout a license and use the software, please follow the steps below:

  1. First time students: Create an account on the Bayesia Lab License Server:
    1. Open this URL and complete the form: http://bls1.bayesia.com/registrations/registratecode/
      1. Use this Registration code:  6f559cd9b33d2be8fc7851f2a4c3e82fdb6d63968e81b231fa449ad837d5a331

    2. You will receive two emails, one will contain your username and password and another will provide the BayesiaLab server information.  Save these emails for future use.

  2. If you registered in a previous semester and no longer have your password, you may need to reset your password to gain access: https://bls1.bayesia.com/users/resetPassword 
  3. Open the BayesiaLab software from the shortcut in the Bayesia Lab folder on the desktop
    1. Enter the server information along with the account information you received via email
      • Host: bls1.bayesia.com
      • Port: 2424
      • User Name: See email notification
      • Password: See email notification
      • Account: You can leave this field blank
    2. Click Next to run the software

Saving Data

You can save data, files and projects in the VM for the duration of your course, but the lab and any data, files or projects will be removed and deleted after the conclusion of each course.  Remember to save any files, data or projects outside the VM before the end of your course.  There are links to OneDrive on the desktop of each VM that you can use to save your data.NOTE: This virtual lab will reset 1 week after the last day of the course, any data saved locally on the virtual machine will be lost.
