Trauma Informed Pedagogy: Fostering Care and Resiliency - October 27, 2020General Information:Research indicates that at least 1 in 4 students are affected by trauma, a figure that has most likely increased given the unprecedented circumstances in 2020 (Attachment and Trauma Network, 2015). Trauma is a distressing experience or set of experiences that threaten a person's actual safety or perceived sense of felt safety to a degree that it exceeds an individual's capacity to cope in healthy ways. It can affect the body, emotions, actions, thinking, self-concept, and relationships. Trauma Informed Pedagogy fosters care and resiliency through helping students feel safe, foster healthy stress tolerance, be connected, and learn. Dr. Nelson and Prof. Pacyga will share relevant strategies and stories gathered from our UNW community, as well as from their k-12 teaching experiences, with the hope to encourage all to reflect on ways that we can foster resilience within our classroom interactions. At UNW, we have a unique opportunity to reflect the grace of the Lord in the design and interactions of our learning communities. Presenters
