Presenters- Carmen LaBerge: Carmen is a writer, speaker and host of Faith Radio's Mornings with Carmen. She is the author of Speak the Truth: How to Bring God Back into Every Conversation. Since 2008, Carmen has served as the president of the Presbyterian Lay Committee and is founding chairman of Common Ground Christian Network. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Religious Broadcasters, and the Christian Leadership Alliance.

The characteristic grit is sometimes compared to approaching life as a marathon instead of as a sprint. Research indicates that grit can be a better predictor for academic success than IQ, but is it possible to help nurture grit in our students? We will explore what research says about grit and the academic success of university students and discuss implications for our own students and courses.
This session will be a facilitated discussion on the roles of expectations, formative feedback, and grace in course design.
