- Use of the social security number as a part of student identification is convenient for the University and the student. It provides for continuity of records with an easily remembered number for requesting transcripts or referring to permanent records in future years. If the student is applying for financial aid, the social security number is required and will be used as a means of correlating the application with separately supplied state and/or federal financial aid information.
- While submission of the social security number is voluntary if the student is not applying for financial aid, the student should consider carefully the advantages of having it as a part of his/her permanent University identification.
