Important Reminder - Shift in Modalities
We look forward in fall 2021 to entering a new normal and returning to face-to-face classes for our traditional undergraduate students, while appropriately leveraging lecture capture. Thanks so much for speaking into the modality and lecture capture guideline documents, which are currently in the final stages of review and approval. Anticipated confirmation is July 1.
In the meantime, as you prepare for your fall 2021 courses, please remember to confer with your Department Chair/Assistant Dean if you would like to shift modalities from face-to-face to blended, hybrid, or virtual. Department Chair/Assistant Dean approval will be needed, along with strong rationale explaining how the alternative modality better meets the needs of your students and your course outcomes.
Your Department Chair/Assistant Dean will inform the Dean of any approved changes and will work with Schedule Builder and the Registrar’s Office to ensure the changes are reflected in the fall schedule. It is critical that students be made aware of course modality, so they are not surprised when classes begin. Students will be expected to participate in their courses as designed but will also have the opportunity, as always, to revise their schedule if needed. As a university, we need to continue tracking modalities and their impact on students and faculty.
Thanks, Colleagues, for working to prepare for a successful on-campus semester this fall. As was true last year, if you have concerns about teaching on campus, please connect with Human Resources to discuss a possible accommodation. We desire to meet your needs as well as the needs of our students.
