The University of Northwestern School of Nursing has carefully and strategically placed professional events and ceremonies throughout the nursing program.. Professional events serve as opportunities to foster professional growth and development of the nursing students. While the Blessing and Pinning Ceremonies showcase the School of Nursing with its faculty, staff, and students, the ceremonies are considered very sacred events, where students are dedicated and committed to the Lord, as they further prepare for ministry and service. Events Each cohort will encounter the events as outlined on the SON calendar. All students are required to help with preparations, attend and fully participate in SON events as academic calendars permit. Certificates will serve as a representation of student participation in these events. The lead faculty for each event is responsible for tracking student attendance and awarding the certificate for each student. The student is responsible for accumulating certificates and presenting them to the faculty member during the leadership course offered in Term 4. Students are encouraged to receive 10 certificates throughout the first 3 Terms. Students who do not receive 10 certificates demonstrating engagement and commitment to the program by Term 4 will have an additional assignment in the leadership course equaling 20 additional hours. Assignment requirements are reflected in the leadership course syllabus. Certificates can be obtained by meeting the event requirements for the following SON events and ceremonies:
Faculty may deem other events appropriate for receiving certificates as needed, and will communicate that information to students prior to the event. The SON State of the Organization is mandatory for all students. Ceremonies Students involved in the Blessing and Pinning Ceremonies are required to attend and fully participate. Students in other cohorts may be asked to help in preparations and are welcome to attend, but are not required.Consult the Library link on the myUNW dashboard to access nursing databases and search resources.
