2.1 Pre-Instructional Planning

During pre-instructional planning you will write about many of the components that you will also include in the sequence of lesson activities on the lesson plan. The prompts that are part of the pre-instructional planning will assist you in gathering information that will influence the decisions you make about your instructional sequence, modeling, scaffolding, selection of instructional strategies, and grouping of students for the lesson.

It is important to remember that planning is a circular process, not a linear one. In other words, you need not complete all components of the pre-instructional planning document before beginning to work on the instructional sequence. You may find it helpful to move back and forth between the documents as you consider the standards, content, and the strengths, needs, and interests of your students.
