Re: 2021 Core Curriculum
Northwestern has adopted a new 2021 Core Curriculum structure that allows students increased flexibility in their programs. The new structure includes 55 credits in the Core Curriculum, 50 credits in the major field, and 20 credits of Enhanced Curriculum (open electives). The additional space in the Enhanced Curriculum allows students to use credits to build areas of strength such as additional minors, study abroad experiences, expertise in languages, intercultural studies experiences, licensing requirements, transfer credit expertise, or involvement in additional fine art experiences, to name just a few.
The following information is designed to assist students and advisors in understanding the 2021 Core Curriculum and in making decisions about the options for completing Core Curriculum requirements. Please see the following resources for detailed information:
A Confluence page is available with information about the new 2021 Core Curriculum: https://unw.atlassian.net/wiki/x/Pw55BQ

Students matriculating prior to fall 2021 may choose to graduate under the current Core Curriculum or they may change to the new Core Curriculum. Students matriculating during the 2021-2022 academic year may file an Academic Policy Exception Request to complete their undergraduate degree with the pre-2021-2022 core curriculum requirements.
Post-Baccalaureate and Senior Transfer students matriculating to the Nursing program in Summer 2021 or Fall 2021 will complete their undergraduate degrees with the pre-2021-2022 core curriculum requirements.
