Global Protect VPN - Mac

About

The GlobalProtect VPN client allows users to connect to secure resources that are not available from the internet or Wi-Fi on campus.

Download and Install

GlobalProtect is pre-installed on UNW laptops.

Personal computer

  1. Open a browser and go to https://pa-vpn.unwsp.edu 

  2. Login with your UNW account if required.

  3. Click the Mac 32/64 bit installer

  4. Open with downloaded installer.

  5. Click OK.

  6. Click Continue.

  7. Click Continue again.

  8. Click Install.

     

  9. You may be prompted to complete the installation as an Administrator (password or Touch ID).

  10. You may be prompted to allow a system extension.

  11. When the installation completes, click Close.

Enable Palo Alto Networks as a trusted developer

  1. From your Mac, launch System Preferences.

  2. Open the Security & Privacy preferences and then select General.

  3. Click the lock icon on the bottom left of the window to make changes and modify preferences.

  4. When prompted verify your account and then click Unlock.

  5. Click Allow next to the message "System software from developer "Palo Alto Networks" was blocked from loading."

UNW computer

  1. Open UNW Self Service from the Launchpad or Spotlight Search.

  2. Click the Utilities tab and locate Palo Alto GlobalProtect 6.

  3. Click Install.


Connecting to the VPN

You should see the Global Protect VPN client “globe” icon in your task bar: gp6_mac_tray_icon_not.png

  1. Click the globe icon to show the login window.

  2. If you are prompted to enter a portal address, enter pa-vpn.unwsp.edu

  3. Click Connect.

  4. Sign in with your UNW account and complete multifactor authentication.

  5. You will now be connected to the VPN. The taskbar icon will show a filled in globe icon when connected: gp6_mac_tray_icon.png

Disconnecting from the VPN

  1. Click the globe icon and click Disconnect.
