Field Trips and University–Sponsored Absences
  • Field trips are an important part of the learning experience in many courses; however, faculty members should protect students from conflicts which may arise if regularly scheduled classes are missed due to field trips. Such events do not release students from obligations to their other regularly scheduled classes. If scheduling a field trip which will remove students from class, all faculty members should be notified via e-mail of the date, time and length of scheduled field trips. A faculty member planning a field trip which will remove students from class must request approval from the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs by e-mail.
  • Co-curricular activities such as athletics, music and drama, also form an important part of students’ educational experiences and are of significant value to the University as a whole. These activities may also take students from classes. Scheduling of co-curricular events should be done to minimize class absences for students.
