Career and Job Search Assistance

Career Development provides assistance in career planning and job search for the University of Northwestern (UNW) students.  Unique to the hiring process of education majors is a lengthy application, credential or reference file and a short hiring season. Students must visit the Career Development office to sign authorization forms to establish their files.

This office provides students an opportunity to develop the job search skills necessary to compete with other candidates. The department receives and publishes listings of current job openings. Job postings are listed at UNW Career Development website. Job listings from other University campuses are available to view at the center.  Each spring, Career Development co-sponsors the Minnesota Education Job Fair in conjunction with the other teacher programs in the state. Teacher education students and alumni are eligible to register during the spring semester.  Career Development assists students in the preparation of a credential file. Briefly, this is an individual folder used to store documents and materials that are used in the job search to support the application for teaching positions. Students have the option of choosing the documents to be included in their credential file.
