- All foodservice arrangements on campus must be approved through the Event Services Office to ensure safety, compliance with FDA regulations, and contractual obligations with our food service provider. This also helps insure compliance with EO 20-99.
- All foodservice on the UNW campus must be provided by Bon Appétit unless specific permission is given (through Event Services). Due to COVID concerns, exceptions will not be made for Fall Semester. This guideline will remain in place for Spring Semester unless announced otherwise.
- While we are mitigating the risk of spreading COVID, foodservice is permitted at scheduled meetings and activities as long as the following requirements are met. Per EO 20-99 any food provided must be in a to-go format. If providing something, please provide it at the end of the activity.
- Food is provided by Bon Appétit, who will follow all appropriate guidelines for COVID, such as items being packaged individually, no self-serve items, etc.
- Participants remove masks only for eating and drinking. Masks should not be removed for any significant length of time. Participants should not be conversing with masks removed.
Participants are allowed to drink out of a personal water bottle or cup in a classroom or at an event. Ideally they should just pull their face covering up or down, take a drink, and pull the covering back over their mouth. The face covering should not be removed.
- Participants are distanced a minimum of 6 feet from others.
- While departments or other groups may schedule a picnic where each person brings their own food, no shared food is permitted (i.e. pot-lucks are not allowed), unless provided and served by Bon Appétit. Bon Appétit will use required protocols for food safety. Due to COVID concerns, shared food from Bon Appétit can be either served by Bon Appétit or packaged for individual servings. Due to EO 20-99 gatherings of this type by staff/faculty should be virtual, rather than in-person. Bon Appetit can provide a to-go meal for staff that are meeting virtually, if desired.
- Any student activities serving food must contact Events Services and will be required to work with Bon Appétit. Bon Appétit will oversee preparation and serving of the food.
- If a student group desires to bring in a particular type of cultural or unique cuisine, the group should work with Bon Appétit regarding bringing in a guest chef, working with Bon Appétit to prepare and serve food.
- Due to COVID concerns, staff and faculty should not bring food from their home or food that is purchased outside of UNW to share with other staff, faculty, or students. Under normal, non-COVID circumstances, occasionally bringing something in that you personally paid for is acceptable if it is not for an official meeting, gathering, or activity. It is not acceptable when paid for with UNW funds, unless previous permission is granted.
- Examples: I baked cookies at home and thought I would bring some for my staff. OR I thought I would pick up donuts at Byerlys and/or Starbucks for the staff that has been working so hard.
- If you want to provide something for your staff, please provide it through Bon Appétit. Doing so is not only required by contract with Bon Appétit, and helps keep the cost of our board plans and catering lower, but provides better control for mitigation purposes.
