Campus Foodservice Policies
Campus Foodservice Policies
- All arrangements for serving food on campus must be approved through the Event Services Office to ensure safety, compliance with FDA regulations, and the meeting of contractual obligations with our food service provider.
- All foodservice on the UNW campus must be provided by Bon Appétit unless specific permission is given (through Event Services).
- While departments or other groups may schedule a picnic where each person brings their own food, no shared food is permitted (i.e. pot-lucks are not allowed), unless provided and served by Bon Appétit. Bon Appétit will use required protocols for food safety.
- Any student activities serving food must contact Events Services and will be required to work with Bon Appétit. Bon Appétit will oversee preparation and serving of the food.
- If a student group desires to bring in a particular type of cultural or unique cuisine, the group should work with Bon Appétit. Options would include:
- A guest chef could be brought in, working with Bon Appetit to prepare and serve food.
- Have Bon Appetit chefs oversee students/staff cooking/preparing ethnic foods. (Product needs to be ordered through Bon Appetit.)
- Work with Bon Appetit to find ethnic foods/recipes/ingredients that they can prepare and serve for a catered event or in the cafe.
- If you wish to provide food at meetings, as gifts, or at a gathering for your staff, please provide it through Bon Appetit. Doing so is not only required by contract with Bon Appetit, it also helps keep the cost of our board plans and catering lower. Gift cards and coupons are available by contacting the Event Services office. Bon Appetit is also happy to prepare "treat bags", working with you on the contents.
- VERY occasionally, bringing something in to share that you personally paid for is acceptable if it is NOT for an official meeting, gathering, or activity, but just to share with co-workers in a casual setting. This is NOT acceptable when paid for (or reimbursed) with UNW funds, unless previous permission is granted through the Event Services office in coordination with Bon Appetit. Any such items should be limited to non-hazardous foods–foods that do not need to be kept hot or cold, or may spoil easily. Non-hazardous foods would include cookies, breads, cakes, etc.
Acceptable Examples:
I baked cookies at home and thought I would bring some to share with my co-workers.
I wanted a donut from Byerlys, so I picked up a dozen to share with my co-workers.
