The advising process involves purposeful interaction and shared responsibilities between students and advisors , while utilizing appropriate tools and resources. Student responsibilities include: Be knowledgeable about SON program requirements Meet with assigned advisor every semester for degree review, questions about progress, and to ensure the plan developed to complete all core curriculum courses prior to Term 4 is completed and that all university and SON requirements are met.
Know and follow SON academic policies, regulations and procedures; seek clarification when needed.
Seek advising assistance and communicate with advisor in a timely manner; come to advising appointments on time and prepared.In consultation with the advisor make academic decisions, develop and implement an academic plan to meet all university and SON degree requirements.Explore career, scholarship or post-graduate opportunities, with the assistance of the advisor.Seek help and

Track progress toward degree completion

Use the university's online degree audit system and registration tools relevant to the advising process.
Evaluate and provide feedback to the SON on academic advising received.
Meet with assigned academic advisor prior to registration for each semester/term during the week of the University Advising Day, if possible.
Each student is assigned one or more academic advisors from the School of Nursing faculty. The roles of the advisor include: Exploring
of student goals while in program.
Assisting students in
planning courses for an academic year. Assisting students progressing through the nursing program.following the prescribed NUR course plan for each term.
Ensure student follows the plan of completion for any outstanding core curriculum courses
Monitoring student academic performance and progression.
Guiding students to appropriate resources for assistance with course work, study skills, and personal concerns.
Document all student advising meetings in an accurate and timely fashion.
Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their advisor. Please contact your advisor during scheduled advising times or set up an appointment if more than a brief discussion is needed.
Students are encouraged to see the assigned academic advisor at the following times during the school year: - Prior to registration for each semester/term. Students are expected to meet with the academic advisor on the scheduled Advising Day. If it is not possible to meet on this day, students are expected to meet with the academic advisor within that week.
- At least once during each semester.
- Upon receiving a 77% or less at midterm in a nursing course.
- Any time when experiencing difficulty in coursework.
