title11.1a Student Health Clearance Requirements

All students are required to obtain the following health requirements approximately three months prior to starting the program and then keep them current throughout the entire time they are in the nursing program, i.e., the first day of Term 1 until the last day of Term 4. Students will upload documented proof of each requirement to ATI Compliance Managment.  

Each participating student must meet the following health requirements

and have documentation in their student health record: A Physical Examination 

:   

  1. A Physical Examination (within the past year) - 1 time only, prior to the start of Term 1 Nursing Courses

  2. MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella): Documentation of 2 vaccinations for measles, mumps and one for rubella is required

. Or a positive history of the disease is sufficient if born prior to 1957. Or
  1. OR documentation of positive titers.

 
  1. Varicella (chickenpox): Documentation of 2 vaccinations is required

. Or
  1. OR physician certified medical documentation of a positive history of the disease

. Or
  1. OR documentation of positive titers.

 
  1. A Two-Step TST (Tuberculosis Skin Test or Mantoux): Students must have a negative 2 step TST test or a negative

blood assay M. tuberculosis (BAMT) in their medical history with annual negative TST or BAMT.  Students with a positive
  1. QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT) within the past year. Students with a positive TST test must have documentation of a negative chest x-ray

test within the 12 months prior to the Program visit and negative annual symptom survey. 
  1. . They must sign a routine Tuberculosis Signs and Symptoms Screening form to indicate negative signs and symptoms upon entrance and annually while in the program.

  2. Hepatitis B Vaccination Series: A 3-shot Hepatitis B vaccination series is required for students who may have contact with blood or bodily fluids

. Or the student must document their decision to decline to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B.
  1. OR may be in the process of the series or titers.

 
  1. Pertussis (t-dap) Vaccination: One-time vaccination after age

of
  1. 19.

 
  1. Tetanus immunization within 10 years.

 
  1. Annual

Flu Shots (influenza) are required. Students without such documentation or those with a positive mantoux test must receive specific medical clearance from Facility or a healthcare provider prior to their participation in the Program or may be denied participation at Facility discretion. Additional testing documentation may be required
  1. influenza vaccinations.

Students who are out of compliance with the above health requirements will be removed from attending their clinical(s) until they have uploaded current documentation to ATI Compliance Management.

Currently, the SON does not require students to get the COVID-19 vaccination. Students choosing to opt out of the COVID-19 vaccination may need to be placed in alternative clinical experiences.  The School of Nursing will make every effort to find excellent clinical learning experiences for all students.  However, alternative clinical experiences for those students choosing not to be vaccinated cannot be guaranteed within a semester's timeframe. This may result in a delay in progression to the next term
