11.1a Student Health Clearance Requirements

All students are required to meet the following health requirements throughout the entire time they are in the nursing program, i.e., the first day of Term 1 until the last day of Term 4. Students will upload documented proof of each requirement to Student Passport, The Clinical Coordination Partnership's student compliance tracking software. Students are provided the log-in information and instructions for Student Passport approximately six weeks prior to orientation. Each participating student must meet the following health requirements and have documentation:

  1. A Physical Examination (within the past year) - 1 time only at admission
  2. MMR (measles, mumps and rubella): Documentation of 2 vaccinations for measles, mumps and one for rubella is required OR documentation of positive titers.
  3. Varicella (chickenpox): Documentation of 2 vaccinations is required OR physician certified medical documentation of a positive history of the disease OR documentation of positive titers.
  4. A Two-Step TST (Tuberculosis Skin Test or Mantoux): Students must have a negative 2 step TST test or a negative QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT) in their medical history with annual negative TST or QFT.  Students with a positive TST test must have a negative chest x-ray test within the 12 months prior to the Program visit and negative Routine Tuberculosis Signs and Symptoms Screening form while in the program.
  5. Hepatitis B Vaccination Series: A 3-shot Hepatitis B vaccination series is required for students who may have contact with blood or bodily fluids OR may be in the process of the series.
  6. Pertussis (t-dap) Vaccination: One-time vaccination after age of 19.
  7. Tetanus immunization within 10 years.
  8. Annual influenza vaccinations.

Students who are out of compliance with the above health requirements will be removed from attending their clinical(s) until they have uploaded current documentation to Student Passport

For 2021-22, students may not be required to obtain the COVID-19 vaccination.  As health care agencies are beginning to required the COVID-19 vaccination, those students choosing to opt out of the COVID-19 vaccination will need to be placed in alternative clinical experiences.  The School of Nursing will make every effort to find excellent clinical learning experiences for all students.  However, alternative clinical experiences for those students no choosing to be vaccinated cannot be guaranteed within a semester's timeframe.
