Student Trips
Overview
It is the desire of University of Northwestern (UNW) to provide support of University-sponsored trips that further the University’s charitable, religious and educational purposes with a tax deduction whenever possible.
Experiential/Missions TripsÂ
- As an institution, we provide our students with opportunities over spring and summer break to travel to national and international areas. These trips do not involve academic credit.
Academic Trip (Cross-cultural studies, Biology trips, etc.)
- An academic trip is one where there are classes for a portion of the semester paired with a time of mission work or internship opportunity. These trips are both academic and mission oriented in nature. The students receive academic credit for both portions of the class. They also receive valuable insights into the nature of missions in foreign cultures. Part of the trip is funded by the tuition they pay to earn these credits. The cost of the mission/internship portion of the trip can be funded by gifts, eligible loans (as determined by the Financial Aid Office), or paid directly by the student.

Extracurricular Trip (music, athletics)
- Groups such as the choir or band or different sports teams occasionally travel and perform both inside and outside the United States. These trips further the Northwestern mission by influencing attendees with the Gospel of Christ as well as enable our students to engage in our world culture in a relevant and powerful way. These trips do not involve academic credit and can be funded by gifts, eligible loans (as determined by the Financial Aid Office), or paid directly by the student.
