Overview
Information Technology provides self-service tools for students to change or reset their passwords.
If you have registered security information, such as Microsoft Authenticator or Email, you can use the Microsoft Self-Servcie Password Reset option.
If your cell phone number was provided in your UNW personal information, you can use the UNW Self-Service Password Reset option.
If neither option works for you, please call the IT Service Desk at 651-631-5699.
After resetting your password, you will need to login to apps and websites again. It may take a few minutes before the new password is recognized everywhere.
UNW Password Requirements
Your new password must be different from any previous password.
It must include at least 14 characters.
It must have at least three of these four characteristics:
uppercase
lowercase
number
symbol
It must not contain part of your name, username, or ID number.
Password Reset Tools
The tools listed below will both reset your UNW Student account password. The difference is which website is being used.
Microsoft Self-Service Password Reset Portal
This method is available for those who have registered security information. If you haven’t yet, check out Getting started with Microsoft Authenticator or add your personal email at aka.ms/mysecurityinfo.
Enter your UNW email (username@students.unwsp.edu) and enter the characters shown in the image or words heard in the audio, then click Next.
Complete your security verification method (email, code or push notification). Click Next if needed.
Set your new UNW account password, then click Finish.
UNW Self-Service Password Reset Portal
This method may be retired in the future. Take the time to register your security information once you have reset your password in order to use the Microsoft provided method.
Go to the UNW password reset portal: https://password.unwsp.edu
Enter your UNW email, username@students.unwsp.edu, then click Next.
You will then be prompted to enter the security code that was sent via text to your cell phone number on file.
After entering your security code, you will be directed to this screen to choose a new password.
If you did not receive a security code and did not receive an error code, the code might have been sent to a different cell phone on file. Please contact the IT Service Desk at 651-631-5699 to have your password reset.
If you received an error code or a message saying that there is no phone number on file, please contact the IT Service Desk at 651-631-5699 to have your password reset.
