Using MyPassword to manage your account
Staff: Every staff member of the University of Northwestern is required to change their password every 180 days. An email notification will be sent when your password is going to expire so you can change it before it expires.
Students: We recommend that students change theirs regularly as well.
How to change my password and set up security questions
Right Click on the following link and open link in a new window in your browser to access the MyPassword web page https://mypassword.unwsp.edu.
(Note: You must use Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox; Safari is not a supported browser.)
- On the login page, enter your User Name and Password
- After logging in, you will see a page which presents two options:
- My Password: this option will take you to change your password. Your new password must be different from your old password and it must also meet the following requirements:
- It needs include at least 8 characters.
- It needs to have at least one of these three characteristics: uppercase, lowercase, and numbers (no symbols)
- It may not contain part of your name.
My Questions: It is highly recommended to setup your security questions for they will be used if you forget your password.
- My Password: this option will take you to change your password. Your new password must be different from your old password and it must also meet the following requirements:
Click Change to complete the password change. You will receive an e-mail confirming that your password has been changed.
Resetting a Forgotten or Expired Password
If your password is forgotten or expires, you’ll need to answer the security questions you chose in order to reset your password.
Additional Steps for Specific User Groups:
- All Employees: If you are an employee using an organization-owned computer on campus, it is important that you restart your machine to ensure applications handle the change correctly.
- Smartphone users: For individuals that use a smartphone to access their UNW e-mail, you will need to update the cached email password in your device.
