Course Level and Numbering Sequence
  • Courses with course codes numbered 0XXX are considered pre-college and credits do not count toward graduation.  Courses with course codes numbered 1XXX and 2XXX are considered lower level and generally contain introductory material.  Courses numbered 3XXX and 4XXX are upper level and are generally most appropriate for juniors and seniors.  Some upper level courses require junior status as a prerequisite.  It is recommended that freshman and sophomores not register for 3000-4000 level courses.
  • Many programs offer a series of courses that should be taken in sequence. Many sequential courses are those with 1, 2, 3 or 4 as last digit in the course number.  Students are strongly encouraged to complete sequential courses in consecutive semesters, if at all possible.
