All students are required to keep the following health requirements current throughout the entire time they are in the nursing program, i.e., the first day of Term 1 until the last day of Term 4. Students will upload documented proof of each requirement to Student Passport, The Clinical Coordination Partnership's student compliance tracking software. Students are provided the login information and instructions for Student Passport approximately six weeks prior to orientation. Each participating student must meet the following health requirements:
A Physical Examination (within the past year) - 1 time only at admission
MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella): Documentation of 2 vaccinations for measles, mumps and one for rubella is required OR documentation of positive titers.
Varicella (chickenpox): Documentation of 2 vaccinations is required OR physician certified medical documentation of a positive history of the disease OR documentation of positive titers.
A Two-Step TST (Tuberculosis Skin Test or Mantoux): Students must have a negative 2 step TST test or a negative QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT) within the past year. Students with a positive TST test must have documentation of a negative chest x-ray. They must sign a routine Tuberculosis Signs and Symptoms Screening form to indicate negative signs and symptoms upon entrance and annually while in the program.
Hepatitis B Vaccination Series: A 3-shot Hepatitis B vaccination series is required for students who may have contact with blood or bodily fluids OR may be in the process of the series or titers.
Pertussis (t-dap) Vaccination: One-time vaccination after age 19.
Tetanus immunization within 10 years.
Annual influenza vaccinations.
COVID-19 – evidence of the complete vaccine series, or documentation within Student Passport that the student is declining COVID-19 vaccination.
Students who are out of compliance with the above health requirements will be removed from attending their clinical(s) until they have uploaded current documentation to Student Passport.
Currently, the SON does not require students to get the COVID-19 vaccination. Students choosing to opt out of the COVID-19 vaccination may need to be placed in alternative clinical experiences. The School of Nursing will make every effort to find excellent clinical learning experiences for all students. However, alternative clinical experiences for those students choosing not to be vaccinated cannot be guaranteed within a semester's timeframe. This may result in a delay in progression to the next term.
