Each student is assigned one or more academic advisors from the School of Nursing faculty. The roles of the advisor include:
- Exploration of student goals.
- Assisting students in planning courses for an academic year.
- Assisting students progressing through the nursing program.
- Monitoring student academic performance.
- Guiding students to appropriate resources for assistance with course work, study skills, and personal concerns.
Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their advisor. Please contact your advisor during scheduled advising times or set up an appointment if more than a brief discussion is needed.
Students are encouraged to see the assigned academic advisor at the following times during the school year:
- Prior to registration for each semester/term.
- At least once during each semester.
- Upon receiving a 77% or less at midterm in a nursing course.
- Any time when experiencing difficulty in coursework.
If you have other concerns not related to a specific academic problem, refer to the appropriate section of the University of Northwestern 2014-2015 Student Handbook. Students are encouraged to participate in the evaluation of the School of Nursing through sharing positive feedback, ideas, concerns, or problems, with their student representatives.
