How to install Microsoft 365

Overview

This article explains how to install Microsoft 365 on multiple unique devices. Please click the operating system and/or device below that you wish to install Microsoft 365 on.  

Install Office Applications on Windows

  1. Login into Microsoft 365 online with your UNW email account (ending in @students.unwsp.edu) and password
    Home | Microsoft 365

  2. From the Microsoft 365 home page click on the "Install and more" button and then choose Microsoft 365 Apps.

  3. You should now get redirected to your account page. Under the ‘Office apps & devices’ section, choose ‘Install Office’. You should now see the installation download in your browser.

  4. Once the download is complete click on the file ‘OfficeSetup.exe’ to run the Microsoft 365 installer.

  5. After the installation, you will need to activate your Microsoft 365 product. 

    1. Click on an Office application such as Word or Excel, and you should be prompted to enter your Northwestern email and password

    2. After you activate the software, you should be fully setup and ready to go. 

TIP: Having trouble? If you can't complete the install after going through these steps, contact the IT Service Desk.

Install Office Applications on Mac

  1. Login into Microsoft 365 online with your UNW email account (ending in @students.unwsp.edu) and password

  4. After the package finishes downloading, select the .pkg file to open the Office installer.

  5. Follow the instructions in the pop-up box to Install Microsoft 365 for Mac.

  1. After the installation, you will need to activate your Microsoft 365 product.
