9.3 Professional Conduct/Upholding Professional Standards

Overview

The discipline of nursing has developed guidelines for professional behavior to give the public an indication of the behavior that can be expected from a professional. It is expected that students will adhere to the following codes of conduct:

  1. Know the scope of practice for the student nurse and function within that scope.

  1. Recognize and respect client diversity/cultural backgrounds, providing dignity to all clients.

  1. Safeguard all client information as confidential, regardless of where it is acquired.

  1. Refuse to endorse the sale and/or promotion of commercial products or services.

  1. Uphold the School of Nursing’s high standards regarding: 

o   Personal Appearance (well-groomed, clean, neat, modest dress);

o   Language (avoid ungodly, inappropriate, provocative, crude, coarse, or vulgar language); and

o   Demeanor (Christ-like character prepared for ministry and service).
