FERPA - Training

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

Student Educational Records–Understanding Federal Law Before accessing student educational records, carefully review the FERPA material presented in this site. Maintaining confidentiality of student educational records can be achieved by knowing a few basic requirements of the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act.

FERPA Training Video: Employees are to complete this video training.

FERPA Tutorial: Get a basic understanding of the rules governing release of student information at University of Northwestern. At the end of the tutorial is a FERPA Quiz for employees to complete.  At the end of the FERPA Quiz, if not done so already, employees are to select the “complete this form” link and complete and submit the Confidentiality Policy and Agreement form.
