Accessing Software

Access Options - Personal Downloads or Horizon

Two options exist to use the engineering software.

Personal Downloads:

Most of the software is available for Personal Download, the exception being single research licenses.

Each software has download instructions on its page as well as a link to its executable files which are stored in the department's Teams/SharePoint.

It is advised that download be done over a wired internet connects as they will be significantly slower over the wireless network.

Before downloading, make sure that your computer meets the required specs. You can check those here, be sure to scroll down to the Engineering Department.

Horizon Access

The second option available to students is to use the software via remote access to the simulation lab.

IT has created detailed instructions for how to set up the Horizon client here.

Please also note:

  • When you login and connect to the lab, you will be connected to a random machine in the room, and likely a different machine each time you connect.  Please save your work on a Teams/SharePoint/OneDrive before you disconnect or log off. Files saved locally may not be there when you return.
  • The number of concurrent connections are still limited to the number of physical machines in the room.
  • If anything its working communicate any quirks or issues to IT and they will do everything they can to resolve issues and provide a smooth experience
Off Campus Software Use - Setting up the VPN

All of our software licenses are tied to the Engineering license server. When on the campus network computers will automatically be able to check out licenses from this server. To do so off campus students will need to download the Engineering VPN. The VPN needs to be connected anytime the software is in use including logging in to Horizon.

Below are the steps to download the VPN:

  1. From off campus, open this page: https://pa-vpn.unwsp.edu
  2. Log in using your UNW account (same as myUNW) and download the appropriate client.
  3. Click through the client install
  4. Run the Global Protect client
  5. Enter “pa-vpn.unwsp.edu” in the "Portal" field as you can see below:

6. Enter your username/password (same as you use for theROCK) and click Connect.
7. You should now be able to access the Engineering servers.

If you are using the VPN to run EES:

  1. You will need to add the full tunnel reserved for EES.
  2. To do so, see the instructions here.
