UNW Technology Essentials

Northwestern recognizes that effectively and creatively using technology can contribute to providing a consistently high-quality experience to students. Some basic programs and systems are essential for faculty members to function efficiently at UNW. 

Essential Functions

• Posting final grades at the end of the term for each student to Self-Service Banner using MyUNW
• Accessing the class list (roster) in Self-Service Banner using MyUNW
• Accessing and sending email from Northwestern’s email system
• Knowing how to report any cybersecurity or technology concerns
• Uploading a course syllabus for the current term to the Learning Management System
• Submitting Joint Intervention referrals for any of the following concerns about students: Personal, Medical, Academic, or Retention

Ancillary Functions

In addition, instructors should consider using technology for the following important teaching functions.

• Informing students how they are doing in the class and providing regular and timely feedback
• Providing learning materials to students
• Using multimedia enhancements and illustrations of your materials
• Connecting students with other support services on campus
