Overview

This article explains how to configure the VoiceThread app on your phone or tablet, make a recording, upload it to a VoiceThread and share the link. VoiceThread is a tool to create a series of media items that can form the basis of a conversation. See other articles on VoiceThread or the VoiceThread helps at unwsp.voicethread.com.

Prepare the first time

  1. Download the free VoiceThread app from the App Store or Google Play

  2. IMPORTANT—in the Settings, change the domain to unwsp.voicethread.com, not just Voicethread.com which is a limited public version.

Make a recording, take a picture or create an image on your phone or tablet

  1. Use your device to record media as you normally would. If you are recording video, make sure you have enough memory and battery to handle your anticipated recording length.
  2. When creating a video, set the camera on a steady location, ideally at eye level and close to the subject for best audio/video combination. An inexpensive tripod and phone clamp holder is recommended. Consider landscape orientation for most typical video. Use vertical video only when the subject fits best this way.

Create a VoiceThread and upload the video

  1. Launch the VoiceThread app. If you are using a computer, Chrome or Firefox are recommended browsers.
  2. Sign in with your  UNW username (not your email) and password.
  3. Tap the Create tab at the bottom of the screen
  4. Tap the + to add a new slide
  5. Tap Upload files
  6. Tap Photos (or wherever your video is located). Select your recorded media and upload the file.
  7. When prompted, add a title. "Link to" can remain blank. Tap Save. You have uploaded video to one slide in your VoiceThread conversation.
  8. Tap Done and now give your VoiceThread a title.
  9. Tap Save. The video will process for a while depending on the file size and network speed.
  1. After the video has uploaded, scroll to the bottom and tap Share.
  2. Choose Get a link.
  3. Be sure that Allow anyone to View is checked. Be sure Comment is checked if you want to allow others to comment.Tap the Copy Link button.
  4. Paste the link into an email or other means for sharing your video.
