1.6 Program Structure
The UNW Teacher Education Program is a preparation program that provides candidates with increasing opportunities to learn and demonstrate knowledge, skills and dispositions associated with success in the profession of teaching. There are three distinct transition points or gates in the system that provide checkpoints for assuring progress towards successful completion of all program requirements. The first transition point is at the point of admission to a teacher education program. At this point the student moves from pre-professional status to professional status as a teacher education candidate. The second transition point is at the point of admission to student teaching. At this point, the candidate moves to the status of student teacher candidate. The final transition point is after student teaching and prior to licensure recommendation when the candidate moves from student teacher status to licensure candidate status. Students must demonstrate successful completion of all required assessments at each transition point in order to move to the next level of the program. The transition points and the related required assessments are summarized in the chart below.
