Participate in the International Student Teaching introduction session during the Education Foundations course.Â
Email the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching to express interest as soon as you know your student teaching semester (MLBUTZOW@unwsp.edu).Â
Schedule an informational appointment with the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching at leastone full year but preferably three semesters prior to your student teaching semester.Â
The Director will then schedule a pre-application interview with you.
Read the International Student Teacher Handbook. The Cost Verification Form needs to be returned to the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching on the day of your final interview.
Upon invitation from the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching, you will
Complete an online application provided by the UNW School of Education. As part of the application process you will choose three cooperating school sites from the approved list of available schools (Appendix B).
Following the Completion of the application, you will participate in an interview with two School of Education faculty members.
Provisional acceptance into the International Student Teaching program will be determined and applicants informed within a few days following the interview.Â
Full acceptance is pending until successful completion of all coursework.
If placement is through STAGE, complete the STAGE application at the Interaction International website. STAGE FEES ARE REQUIRED UPON APPLICATION.
Not all schools listed on the STAGE website are available for Student Teaching placement. The Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching must approve your cooperating school before placement.
Upon placement, the Teacher Candidate
Works with the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching to complete the online UNW Travel Application, which requires:
A copy of your passport
Health insurance info.
Emergency contact info.
Notarized Health Care Directive
UNW Cabinet approvals
Contacts the designee at the cooperating school to establish details regarding housing, cost, classroom information, cooperating teacher, etc.
Research the cultural, academic, social, and religious aspects of your cooperating school country/location.
See a physician and/or dentist to discuss prescriptions or other medications you may need for the duration of your international experience. Research any specific immunizations for your international experience through the Center for Disease Control
Discuss any accommodations for identified learning needs with Academic Achievement.
Complete the International Student Teaching Cost Verification Form (Appendix A). Provide the Director of Field Experiences and Student Teaching a copy of your estimated budget costs. This form will be turned in during the final interview.
