3.3 Visit Your Doctor & Dentist

Some International Student Teaching placements may require that you furnish a medical history and certification of travel fitness from a physician. Even if this is not required, the SoE recommends that you make an appointment with your personal physician, dentist, and other health care specialists before going overseas. It is advisable to renew prescription medications and carry copies of the doctor’s prescription orders, extra eyeglasses, contact lenses, etc. Also, check to determine whether medications normally taken at home are legal in the host country. If you have a medical condition that requires on-going monitoring by a health professional, it is recommended that together you discuss whether or not to identify a health care professional overseas.
