5.1 Budget & Funding
Plan on creating an itemized budget outlining educational and living expenses prior to departure. Consider additional expenses if you intend to do sightseeing and taking in events while living in the host country. Consider the best way to gain access to funds while abroad, including: ATM cards, credit cards, and cash.
Regarding Personal Fundraising
Though it is not required, some candidates may choose to personally raise supplementary funding to support their international student teaching experience. Should candidates opt to do so, the following guidelines must be respected.
Fundraising must occur off campus (e.g. at one’s church, family gatherings, social engagements).
Whereas candidates can certainly state that they attend the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, they must not state or imply that they officially represent the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, whether this is stated verbally, in writing, digitally, or through use of university graphics.
The University of Northwestern – St. Paul School of Education retains the right to review and to approve or disapprove any letters, flyers, posters, digital postings, or other requests related to international student teaching fundraising to ensure that it abides by these tenets.
Any funds raised, disbursement, or concerns that arise therefrom are the responsibility of the candidate and not the University of Northwestern – St. Paul nor its School of Education.
