6.3 Student Teaching Evaluations
A university supervisor from the teaching major will provide weekly contact and evaluate the student teacher's progress. The cooperating teacher and the UNW supervisor each completes a final evaluation form and shares it with the student teacher. The student will receive two endorsed copies and is encouraged to retain one in his/her personnel file.
The university supervisor determines the student teacher's grade and submits it to the Program Coordinator, who submits the grade to the Registrar’s Office and the Assistant Dean of the School of Education.
Evaluations by the Cooperating Teacher and University Supervisor must indicate that the student is performing at or above minimum standards. Any criteria that are assessed at Level 1 must be remediated through an Academic Progress Plan prior to licensure recommendation.
In the event that the student does not successfully complete student teaching, the university supervisor will not recommend the student for licensure to the Assistant Dean of the School of Education. A student who does not successfully complete student teaching is not eligible to be recommended for licensure to the Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) by the School of Education.
