7.1 Admission & Rentention Committee (ARC)
Each education student is interviewed by an Admission and Retention Committee (ARC) at least twice during the completion of the student's program. The first time is to be admitted into the teacher education program after completion of approximately 50 credits, the second is to determine admittance into student teaching. The composition of the first committee will include faculty members from across the SOE while the composition of the committee for the second interview includes faculty members from the student's major field. Intervention meetings with students may be requested at any time by the Program Coordinator.
Responsibilities of the Admission and Retention Committee are as follows:
1) Approve students for admission into a teacher education program.
2) Approve students for admission into student teaching.
   a. Approve student participation in extracurricular, co-curricular and curriculum activities during student teaching, according to the guidelines defined in chapter 6. Exceptions to these guidelines must be approved by the Exceptions Committee.
   b. Approve and recommend duration and extent of outside work activities during student teaching according to the guidelines defined in chapter 6. Exceptions to these guidelines must be approved by the Exceptions Committee.
3) Recommend or require students to complete a Professional Behavior Plan or an Academic Progress Plan in order to successfully meet program requirements.
4) Recommend or require remedial course work or lab experiences for students requiring additional preparation in order to meet program requirements.
5) Recommend or require additional field experiences for pre-professional or professional level students.
6) Recommend removal of students from teacher education programs or student teaching as per School of Education guidelines.
